The Pink Gospel of Self Image
11 04 2006TheStar.com - Teens get glimpse at colourful mind of pop diva Pink Here is another example of how the world gets the Gospel so much better than we do. It also shows that the hunger for it is stronger than we give credit for. Especially when it is presented in an authentic way.
Pink, singer/song-writer, addressed about 700 teen girls at Toronto High School recently and did what most youth ministers would dream of. She talked to teens about their culture and the pressures placed on them and gave some very positive ways to respond.
“Look, girls — guys are going to like us anyway; you don’t have to take off all your clothes to get them to chase you around,” cackled the platinum-haired Philadelphia native, born Alecia Moore, who targets ditzy glam girls in her video with laser-sharp parodies of Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson.
Pink wrote the song “Stupid Girls” as a fun poke at the bubble gum pop of other artists in the industry. With a somewhat articulate message, Pink manages a convinceing argument for young girls. “Stupid is a harsh word, but I don’t think girls should have to dumb themselves down to be cute,” says Pink.
I don’t know about the rest of her message, but Pink has me listening.
