Church Advertising is a Waste of Time
4 04 2006Church Marketing Sucks: Church Advertising is a Waste of Time This is a great article from a guy who does this all the time. How can a marketing guy who works for a church say this? Well, you’ll have to read the article, but here is a snippet:
The most powerful apologetic for Christianity is a local church body living the way it should.
Even better, he says:
[most churches think] “We must advertise so that people will perceive us in a favorable light and thereby be drawn to our Sunday morning services, where they will meet God.”
This is nonsense.
Nonsense indeed. I have heard and even said the same thing in my church. I usually come up with no answer to the question. I think that is the best evidence for it being the wrong question. Bad questions=bad answers.
So how can you promote your next event? I would ask how that event REALLY extends to mission of the church.
Read this article if you promote any event for your church. It will hopefully change the way you think about events and promotion.
