Get a Life or Get a Coach

Get a Life or Get a Coach I saw this article in the New York Times that was too good to miss. Apparently many people, but especially women in their early 20’s, are getting life coaches. What do life coaches do? They smack your hiney to get you to finish what you started and in others ways inpsire you to be better than your own self discipline.

“It seems coaching, which typically lasts an average of only six months, is catching on as the ultimate in ultraquick life improvement; a newer, faster, seemingly better option than traditional therapy. Which sounds perfect for entitled twentysomethings raised on sound bites, high disposable incomes and instant messaging,” writes Esther Haynes.

The evidence is clear. People want and need to be discipled. They want someone who is ahead of them in the game of life to take time to mentor them and help them go farther than they could without them. And they are willing to pay $200 - $500 a month to do it. WOW! There is the missing pay check in youth ministry. Let’s start charging for discipling/mentoring others.
